Payroll & Real Time Information (RTI)

Since the introduction of Real-Time Information (RTI), administering payroll has been more challenging and complex. Real-Time Information (RTI) instructs employers to notify HM Revenue and Customs each time they make a payment to an employee. As the title implies ‘Real Time Information (RTI)’, this has to be done at the time, which puts urgent pressure on the company to comply with legislation.

All employers are liable for monthly fines starting from £100 if there is evidence of non-compliance. The fines increase depending on the number employees in the organisation. Since its introduction, Real-Time Information responsibilities, and the subsequent penalties, have shown that it’s no longer possible for a member of staff to “do the payroll” alongside other duties and without the correct software.
